    The Amazing Beach Dime

    June 1, 2010

Found May 31, 2010 in the sand at the beach.

I was visiting my parents for Memorial Day weekend. They still live in the town that I grew up in. The town is on the coast and has about 6 or 7 town beaches for the residents. I normally go to the beach that is closest to their house which is about a 10 minute drive away. For some reason, that morning I wanted to go to one of the other beaches. Maybe it was another 2 or 3 minutes farther.

I got to the beach around 10:30 am. I like getting there early because there are usually only a few people there and you have your pick of where you want to sit before it starts to fill up and get crowded. There were maybe 4 or 5 people there so I pretty much could choose anywhere on the entire beach as to where I wanted to place my blanket and beach chair. I ended up walking down to the upper right corner of the beach (for lack of a better way to describe location). I dropped my stuff onto the sand and then grabbed my blanket to spread it out. As I stood there unfolding it, I noticed that the sand was really flat and even another 5 feet or so away so instead of placing it where I had stopped, I placed it there. Then I moved all of my stuff over to the blanket and sat down on my beach chair to finish reading “Infinite Possibilities” the book mentioned in my previous post.

I was there about an hour and a half before I had to get up and walk across the beach to use the bathroom. As I was walking back to my blanket, I found a perfectly heart shaped rock in the sand. I picked it up and brought it back to my bag wondering if it was a sign or something. I put it in my beach bag and sat back down on my beach chair. I thought “wouldn’t it be funny if I found a dime now”. That’s when I looked over to my left and saw this just an arm’s reach away from me.

I stared at it for a while thinking “are you kidding me?” I honestly couldn’t believe my eyes. “Out of this entire huge beach, what are the chances that I’m going to put my blanket and chair in the sand right next to a dime?” And what if I hadn’t moved my blanket over a few feet like I had done? Did someone or something make me or want me to move it there? It was honestly like finding a needle in a haystack.

Here’s a link to a picture of the view to the left of my beach chair. It’s a full size image that you can see in actual pixels. What are the chances that my eye is going to be drawn to the tiny silver sliver peeking out of the sand?

Needless to say, it was such a crazy experience that the first thing I did was take out my camera and snap these photos. Then I picked up the dime out of the sand. Once again I knew that I was exactly where I was supposed to be and that everything would work out for the greatest good.

A bit over a year ago I self published a cartoon book for the divorced and widowed called Flying Solo. Simultaneously, I began finding dimes. Not in my home, but on the street, in cracks in the road, public washrooms, stores; if not every day, every other day. We are into the second year and it continues. I know noone who finds dimes; perhaps pennys and the odd nickle or quarter, but dimes? and almost every day. I would love some serious explanations.

I have had this experience as well. TWICE on the beach–and thankfully, in the company o’ friends (so, I can share w/ them, my excitement and surprise! :) ). I am so happy you had the chance to feel this!

The 1st “beach dime” I’ve spotted (since finding dimes all over like you) was in Vancouver, BC, CAN, in Sept 2009.

My best friend wanted to take a photo o’ me on the beach and there was sun in my eyes, so I took off my glasses (aka, I really should NOT have seen this dime!)–and she asked me to move over to get some o’ the hills in the scenery. And, as soon as I shifted–I saw something shimmery in the sand. And there she was.. a Canadian dime (to boot! :) ) from 2008! :D

My 2nd “beach dime” I’ve spotted was in Miami’s South Beach, during a Pitbull concert in Feb o’ this year.

Even in the slightly rainy, darkened sky–I saw a silver glint o’ ridges that seemed to light the whole area o’ sand that it was in.. and, there it was, from 2006. As I plucked it out, I’m surrounded by my 2 friends who looked @ me, saying: “How did you see that?” I couldn’t really explain it (b/c, I do not spend my life staring @ the ground!).. but, I was totally excited! :D

I only remember the dates & places o’ the dimes b/c I’ve been journaling them for years now.

LOVE your blog! And, it’s great to reminded to re-visit again, to know that there’s someone out there that is STILL seeing them as well! :)

Did anyone else notice that there were 2 dimes in the pic?

I’ve been finding dimes for about 6-7 (maybe more) years now. Sometimes I’ll be on a walk and find them right in my path. Today, I found one as me and my guy (who used to laugh, but has become a believer, now that he’s actually seen me find them) were walking into a store (if he hadn’t parked where he did, I wouldn’t have found it). Another time I found one tetter-tottering on the heat register in my house (a fraction of an inch to one side, and it would’ve fallen into the duct thingie). I’ve found them in the strangest places and under the weirdest circumstances. Two friends of mine have been finding them for almost as long as I have, and once it started happening, we always tell each other. Once, only a few weeks ago, I found a dime, which made me think of my friend, Darlene, so I called her and when I told her how I had found the dime, she had found one too, AT THE EXACT SAME TIME!!! We don’t know what it means, but think its the humor of The Universe letting us know we’re on the right path or something. Now when I find them, I just smile and say thank you. I’ve saved them all too!!!
